Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common heart disease in cats. A cat that seems healthy may become very ill very quickly, or even die suddenly.
HCM is diagnosed when thickening of the left ventricular walls is diagnosed using cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography), or at necropsy (veterinary autopsy). Some HCM positive cats have a mild form and can live a long and happy life.
The Winn Feline Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to funding research into feline health issues. This calendar is being sold to support the DNA research in Sphynx cats specifically.
