This is a first litter for both of them, it is a unique combination. Also, Frimal is the result of an outcross, the kittens will therefor bring new blood into the lines.


Both parents are tested negative on HCM, Fiv and Felv.

Pedigree of kittens

On 16th of April, Frimel went into labour around 3 pm, and after a lot of huffing and puffing and hard work around 6 pm the first three kittens were born: one girl and two boys. All three look pinkish, so their colour will turn darker. Whether they are points and minks or minks and sepias we'll be able to see later. Two kittens weighed about 80 grams each, one 73. This last one makes swimming motions when drinking, which causes him to fall off the nipple and then he cries out. Both Frimel and I have to get used to the sound. In the meantime they have gained weight, so they are drinking well.
Because I could feel a kitten moving around in Frimel's belly last night and she still had contractions, I stayed with her to help. Sadly it took very long for the placenta's of the last two kittens to come out, and around 3 am a fourth kitten, a girl, was born lifeless. She only weighed 57 grams, so maybe it was just not supposed to be. She was a perfect pink mini-Sphynx...
Frimel takes good care of her little ones, she asks my help regularly when the kittens need to latch on, and she turns her belly up to me (she'd been practising, you can see that in the last pictures of her pregnancy)

Around half past 11 everyone was exhausted and took a nap, but first they drank some...champagne?

19th April: kittens are gaining weight, even at night when I'm not always there to help latching on. The girl weighs 140 grams now, the dark boy 114 and the light boy 127. Edges of ears are turning darker already.

20th April:

20 april: I can really feel the difference in weight compared to the first days when I pick up a kitten now, they have clearly gained weight. These kittens are not scratching each other's heads yet, like Layla's did, probably because there is relatively more room at the milk bar...

21st April: the first eye is opening...

24th April: we are 8 days old now, about time we introduced ourselves properly:

I am The Missing Link of Zero Pelagio, first born and only daughter of Frimel and Murphy. I weigh 224 grams now and I'm showing my markings more and more clearly. I am the only kitten in this litter with white markings.

I was born second, and I was a scrawny little fellow. My colour was a dark pink and often I screamed at the top of my lungs. I have gone much darker in the meantime and I weigh 182 grams. I'm still the loud mouth of the pack, and that is why my name is Pan Narrans of Zero Pelagio, which means: Story telling Monkey.

I was born third, I'm second son to Frimel and Murphy, and I am a fairly calm, relaxed kiten. Though I don't often fight for a seat at the milk bar, my weight has gone up to 205 grams. Maybe I'm just a smart guy? That's why my name is Pan Sapiens of Zero Pelagio, which means: Wise Monkey.
I'm still a lighter colour than my brother and sister, but you can see my ears and nose have gone darker than the rest of me.

25th and 26th April

MAY 2nd AND 3rd: we've got AKA's now, because "light" and "dark boy" is rather impersonal...

The girl is called Blitzz.
The dark boy, because of his big mouth, Satchmo.
The light boy we call Smokey.

10th MAY: the kittens are starting to play with each other, and are looking at the world around them with interest. They are still growing hard. Average weight: 500 grams.

On Mother's Day we took Frimel outside to enjoy a bit of fresh air, and the fishes in the pond.

MAY 15th: kittens are 4 weeks old already. Time flies...

May 28th : the kittens are 6 weeks old today, weights are between 650 and 800 grams.

A shredded and cooked fresh chicken breast disappears in no time, the litter tray is used properly, and all they do is play, purr and sleep. That's the way to do it ;)

I'm holding Satchmo and Blitzz for two different families, until they can come and take a personal look.

MAY 29th: the kittens have jumped out of the bench and are walking around the house on wobbly legs now. The first time this happened, Frimel tried to keep an eye on all three of them in a panick. Now she just sits on a chair or couch and keeps an eye on them from above.

They've also picked their own favourite place to sleep in: a box on the scratcing post...

Almost 7 weeks old

Obi will be moving to his new family on Friday, July 25th. He will be moving in with Evi, Johan and Nemo his cat comrade.
Blitzz will be moving soon, too.
We are still looking for a nice new family who would like to welcome our Frimel as a pet.

Blitzz, who is now called Aisha, does wel in Poland. All three kittens by the time they are 5 months old, weigh almost 3 kilos (6 pounds)

PREGNANCY:

It is day 38 into the pregnancy, 27 more to go. Frimel's belly is starting to show. We're very curious to see the kittens again!

Picture below: day 47. It is clearly noticable now that Frimel only has 7 nipples instead of the usual 8. It's not uncommon in cats, sometimes they have one extra!

Day 66: Frimel has been a bit nervous for the last couple of days, she asks for our attention, and when we follow her to the bench she lies down on her back so we can rub her belly.
